It Matters
Feminism should matter.
I should not have to take classes that train me to speak more professionally because my voice is too girly and hesitant.
I should not be told that I am being unrealistic and impractical for wanting to become a woman in Congress.
Feminism should matter.
My mother should not have to hold her tongue at the dinner table because family discussions only permit men participation.
My cousin should not have to beg her parents to let her join the wrestling team because it is a sport dominated by men.
It should matter.
We often question why it is that engineering is a women-limited profession while we laugh when our sisters told us they joined the robotics club.
We often question why is it that women makes up 51% of our population but only 17% of our Congress while we let political journalism becomes making fun of Hillary Clinton’s appearance.
It should matter.
It should matter because my fellow sisters around the world should not be silenced from the crippling fear of domestic violence and male ignorance.
It should matter because women should not be forced out of school just because our knowledge may threaten the economic success of men.
It should matter because we women should not have to teach society and educate men about our existence and our rights.
FEMINISM SHOULD MATTER BECAUSE I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GIVE YOU A SPEECH TO PERSUADE YOU THAT IT DOES.
